Ethical Round-Up: Our Favourite Ethical Lifestyle Blogs

Navigating your way through the world of ethical fashion and sustainable living can be tough, especially if you’re new to it all like Jerome and I are. Over the past year, we’ve done a lot of research about the fashion industry, and there’s a dizzying amount of information (and misinformation) out there. That’s why it’s key to find sources and people you can trust to give you content that’s accurate, credible, and well-researched.

So what have we found most useful during our sustainable journey so far? Ethical bloggers. Here’s a round up of the top sustainable lifestyle blogs that have served us on our journey so far.

1. My New Neighbour

My New Neighbour was started by Shelby and Teagan, two friends who wanted to break free of mindless materialism and embark on a journey to understand how our everyday actions impact our “new” neighbours. They blog about the “how-tos” of buying locally and ethically, and document their ethical living journey. My New Neighbour is our go-to blog to discover ethical brands in Canada. #truenorth

2. The Curious Button

The Curious Button is an “ethically conscious lifestyle blog for the modern 20-something ladies” who are just starting their ethical journey (like me!). Behind The Curious Button is Elena, a Canadian student who started blogging after watching The True Cost, a documentary about the disastrous effects of fast fashion on the environment, factory workers, and our health. The Curious Button is our go-to for unpretentious and well-researched posts about how to begin and grow your slow fashion journey. It’s also Canadian, which is a huge plus!

3. Sustainably Chic

We’re absolutely in love with Natalie from Sustainably Chic. This is the perfect blog to discover new brands and sustainable products from around the world. We often reference Natalie’s blog to source products and potential partners for our shop, so you know for sure they’re quality! Sustainably Chic features beautiful photos and tells the story of all the brands in an authentic and seamless way. Her Instagram is also topnotch and so much fun to look through.

4. The Note Passer

The Note Passer blog was created by Elizabeth Stilwell, a freelance graphic designer and writer who is also one of the founders of the Ethical Writers Coalition, a network of journalists, writers, and bloggers committed to sharing ethical living and sustainability. In her blog, Elizabeth covers a range of topics from book recommendations to fashion tips, non-toxic beauty, compost and food, and even how to talk to your kids about ethical fashion. Time and again we reference her posts on wardrobe essentials and vintage shopping.

5. Magnifeco

Magnifeco is a digital source for eco-fashion and sustainable living. It contains a huge amount of content spanning from fashion, living, travel, and news for men, women, and kids. All their content is extremely well-researched and detailed. Kate Black, the mastermind behind Magnifeco, wrote a book of the same name which dives into great detail about the clothes we wear, our beauty and personal care products, and how we clean and care for our clothes. The book was a mind blowing read for newbies like us (we even wrote a blog post summarizing what we learned!).
