  • Why you’ll love this product

This sling bag is handmade in the Philippines from handwoven yakan fabric and genuine cowhide leather. Known as one of the finest weavers in the country, the Yakan tribe live in Basilan, Mindanao Island and have become renowned for their intricate geometric patterns and vibrant colours. It often takes over a week to weave a meter of fabric. In this piece, yakan fabric is combined with canvas and genuine leather to create a modern piece steeped in tradition. No two fabrics are alike.

Basilan is a marginalized region suffering from poverty and war. VESTI provides the Yakan people with sustainable livelihood and purchases their weaves at above-market prices..

About VESTI

VESTI

When you purchase a VESTI bag, you help provide sustainable livelihood to artisan weavers and promote the beauty of a misunderstood region like Mindanao. In order to maximize profit for the artisan weaver, VESTI doesn’t work with middlemen or other parties. Instead, they directly purchase the fabric from weavers at fair and above-market prices. They also work hand-in-hand with the weavers themselves to produce each design, ensuring every bag is infused with true Mindanao beauty.
