Elevating indigenous culture with artfully handwoven bags

About AKABA

AKABA is doing something new by preserving the old. The Philippines has a rich weaving culture, but because of high unemployment and poverty in many indigenous communities, these weaving traditions are being lost. Alarmed, a small group of social entrepreneurs came together and formed AKABA: a Filipino lifestyle brand committed to preserving and promoting indigenous culture through livelihood.

Each bag is handmade from indigenous textiles and handcrafted using centuries worth of weaving tradition. They work with weaving cooperatives in Ylocos Norte to train and employ artisans from impoverished communities. Their goal? To become a leading Filipino brand for high quality products that preserve indigenous cultures, create inclusive growth, and promote Filipino innovation.
